Xpeng stock: In this area, Xpeng is one step ahead of its rival Tesla

The Chinese electric car manufacturer Xpeng is lagging behind its US competitor Tesla when it comes to car deliveries, but the company has already gained a lead in another area.

• Xpeng plans to expand driver assistance technology to 50 cities in China by the end of the year
• NGP functionality planned to be introduced in Europe by the end of next year
• Advantage over Tesla – Full self-driving technology not yet available in China

Xpeng’s driver assistance technology

Chinese Tesla rival Xpeng announced some news at its Tech Day in Guangzhou, where the company is headquartered, on October 24th. Among other things, the electric car maker announced, according to CNBC, that it remains on track with its plans to expand its driver assistance technology from the current five cities to 50 cities in China by the end of the year and to introduce NGP (Navigation Guided Pilot) functionality in Europe by the end of next Target for the year.

Back in March, Xpeng said it was updating its advanced driver assistance software XNGP and plans to make all features available to drivers across China by 2024. In mid-June, Xpeng announced the official launch of City NGP (Navigation Guided Pilot) in Beijing.

According to Xpeng, the software is intended to make driving easier by helping, for example, with changing lanes, navigating intersections and other tasks on city streets.

With its plans to expand its driver assistance technology across China and launch it in Europe, Xpeng wants to get a head start on Tesla. Xpeng’s XNGP is similar to Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) technology, but it is not yet available in China.

Acceptance of driver assistance technologies is increasing

Brian Gu, honorary vice chairman of Xpeng’s board and co-president, said the electric car maker sees a “tipping point” for consumer adoption of driver-assist technologies in China, according to CNBC. According to Gu, more than 90 percent of drivers in Beijing who have a driver assistance function have activated it. The technology was also the most important feature that consumers wanted for the new version of the G9 electric SUV.

According to CNBC, other electric car manufacturers such as Huawei and NIO are also increasingly making their driver assistance functions a selling point with additional models.

Regarding the launch of its driver assistance software in Europe, Gu said the company needs time to test and localize it in Europe, CNBC reports. However, he did not want to give details about the planned availability.

More news from Tech Day

The company also introduced “AI Valet Driver” as a new ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) feature, which allows drivers to set a start and end point anywhere in the city and create a saved route after a one-time manual trip, according to CNEVPOST. If the same route is then chosen again, AI Valet Driver can be activated to use advanced assisted driving.

Xpeng also announced the smart cockpit operating system “XOS Tianji”. This should seamlessly integrate the intelligent driving functions with next-generation smart cockpit scenarios.

With XGPT, as CNEVPOST reports, the company has also integrated a large-scale artificial intelligence model into the smart cockpit system.

Additionally, at its Tech Day, Xpeng presented its AeroHT flying car development plans and its plans for a new bipedal robot, the PX5.
