Xavier Naidoo: Management tries to explain the apology

Xavier Naidoo amazed Germany with his apology video last week (April 20). Should the musician, who lost his way years ago, have now found ground under his feet again? His management recently commented on Naidoo’s motives and explained that the Mannheimer’s change of heart was related to the war in Ukraine.

After the 50-year-old apologized in a three-minute video on Instagram for spreading his views, a dispute broke out on social media: Does the singer, a corona denier and avowed racist, really mean it – or is he simply missing it at the moment of income?

Impulse for self-reflection through the Ukraine war

“I have opened up theories, perspectives and sometimes also groups, from which I distance myself without any ifs and buts,” Naidoo announced in the video. He admitted that he was “on the wrong track” and that he had made “disturbing statements”. With the help of those around him, however, he managed to reflect on himself by asking “critical questions about statements I made in the past”.

The reason for the “critical questions” was, among other things, the Russian war against Ukraine. Naidoo’s wife, and thus part of his family, comes from Ukraine, which is why the soul singer was “dismayed and shaken up” by the events there. Most recently, however, he had streamed propaganda radio stations from Russia via Telegram.

There will be no more information until the war is over

His management confirmed his reasoning when asked by “RTL”: “One reason for the video message was the terrible war in Ukraine, which, as explained, also affects Xavier Naidoo very personally.” A personal statement from the musician is currently not to be expected, the management also explained. “Private aid measures for family, friends and other people in need from Ukraine currently require his full attention and are his top priority,” it says. “Further explanations on the background” would only be available once the situation in Ukraine had calmed down.
