X there, X here – Musk’s brand confusion should end already

The most logical thing would be to talk about tweets in the future as gossip, writes journalist Jani Ahosola.

Twitter changed to X and owned the service Elon Musk’s also Tweets will be called x in the future.

Musk’s lust for the letter X seems to be insatiable. You can find it in the name of SpaceX, the space company he owns, and in Tesla’s collection. And that’s not all: the billionaire also named his children futuristically X AE A-Xii -mark.

Would everyone now have to bend to the billionaire’s letter craze and start calling all of Musk’s brainteasers X, if Musk so wishes? It seems that money can buy you all kinds of things – including the freedom to name things funny.

However, the enthusiasm for reform does not seem very reliable, and Musk’s actions mostly appear as a strange mix. After all, Twitter has changed and reformed several times since Musk bought the service. Unfortunately, the reforms have taken the service in a worse direction.

It’s a bit difficult for a mass emperor like Musk to say something back. Several journalists who criticized him have been banned from Twitter with a small threshold, and thus the billionaire has somehow been able to save his sensitive skin. After all, it’s nicer to see mostly nice comments and skip public criticism.

X responds to journalists’ inquiries with poop emojis, which is questionable to say the least for this level of service. The reason for this “reform” has been, among other things, layoffs in the communications department. Communication seems to be handled by the billionaire alone these days, and his x has to be followed in X almost out of necessity.

Of course, whoever enjoyed the power now, the journalists should. After all, they might ask difficult questions and reveal something sensitive – something that, according to the person concerned, will not stand the light of day. But Musk manages to keep his charm to his fan base.

What name should tweets be called in Finland in the future? The letter X is not used much in the Finnish language, and calling tweets x seems silly: “Musk your x in X, so that X is renewed”.

Ruksaus would be a natural and neutral term in Finnish. When we look at X’s recent reforms, based on which Musk’s somewhat questionable ideas about freedom of speech enable hate speech in X, the most logical thing would be to talk about tweets in the future as gossip.

Twitter had time to create great importance as a channel for information transmission. With the reforms, the reliability of the service has suffered and many have applied for other services.

X users will have to “wait” at least until the much-talked-about Threads published by Instagram reaches the EU. This is stuck until Instagram’s parent company, Meta, agrees to modify its service so that it does not collect all the information that comes out of its users. EU rules will not change because of them.

In addition to Threads, there are options such as Mastodon and former employees of Twitter developing the new Bluesky service at the best of times.

If X is going to maintain its credibility and its position as Twitter’s successor, it would be worthwhile for Musk to focus on other things than constant rambling.

“…and we’re about to pull again!”
