The Würzburg-based clothing supplier Zapata GmbH & Co. KG faces an uncertain future. The insolvency proceedings were opened on January 1st, the law firm HWR insolvency administration announced on Monday. With the lawyer Matthias Reinel, she provides the insolvency administrator of the ailing company.
Zapata had already filed for insolvency at the Würzburg district court at the end of October 2022 “due to the current economic developments”. For the retailer founded in 1985, which, according to HWR, operates branches in Passau, Augsburg, and Neu-Ulm as well as an outlet store in Würzburg, this is the second insolvency within a few years. In 2017, the predecessor company Zapata Mode-Vertriebs GmbH completed a corresponding procedure.
Although all branches are still open, the continued existence of the company is currently uncertain. The team around the insolvency administrator is trying “under high pressure to restructure the business, which currently has 35 employees,” said HWR. “Initial discussions have already been held with interested parties. However, due to the extremely difficult conditions in retail in general and in stationary textile retail in particular, it has not yet been possible to find a continuation solution.”
