Sabine Lisicki is in the round of 16 in Bad Homburg. In the first round she defeated a compatriot. Angelique Kerber had little trouble.
Sabine Lisicki reached the round of 16 at the WTA tournament in Bad Homburg. The Wimbledon finalist of the year 2013 won 6: 4 and 7: 6 against Tamara Korpatsch from Hamburg in the Kurpark on Tuesday. It was Lisicki’s first win on the tour since her injury-related one-and-a-half year break.
The 32-year-old only made her comeback on the tour in May. For the tournament in Bad Homburg, she received a wild card from the organizers in advance. In the round of 16 she now meets Greet Minnen from Belgium. “I missed it a lot. The feeling I have now shows me that it was worth it. I really enjoyed it. I’m happy to be able to play here,” said Lisicki after the win.
Kerber loose on
Defending champion Angelique Kerber had significantly less trouble in her first round match. The game against Anastasia Gasanova, which had to be interrupted on Monday, was easily won by the tournament ambassador 6:2 and 6:2 on Tuesday. Kerber now meets the Italian Lucia Bronzetti in the round of 16.
“It’s never easy to play a first match. But I just feel good on grass,” emphasized Kerber afterwards. “I’m doing my best to have a lot of matches here. Defending my title here remains my goal. My confidence is there.”
