The 27-year-old Tuscan can do nothing against the number 7 in the world: it ends 6-3 6-2 for the American who will challenge the number 1 Swiatek. Ok Muchova too
Nothing to do for Jasmine Paolini, eliminated in the quarterfinals of the WTA 1000 in Cincinnati. The 27-year-old Tuscan was eliminated by Coco Gauff, seeded number 7, with a score of 6-3 6-2. Game with not too many emotions, but which Paolini still held well up to a certain point. Indeed, in both sets, Jasmine had gone ahead 2-0 with a break, before suffering the comeback of the American, in the second set even with a run of 6 games to zero. Paolini is the third Italian to reach the quarterfinals in Cincinnati, after Pennetta and Vinci, but it was clear that she is the underdog against Gauff, the 19-year-old on the launch pad (for a little too long, but that’s another matter) and who is waiting the consecration, perhaps even in this American trip, who knows. For Paolini an entry into the top 40 and an excellent tournament played that gives confidence. In the semifinals, Gauff will face world number one Iga Swiatek, who defeated Wimbledon winner Marketa Voundrousova 7-6 (3) 6-1. Also in the semifinals Muchova, who took advantage of Bouzkova’s withdrawal at 3-0. Tonight the most awaited quarter-final, the one between Ons Jabeur and Aryna Sabalenka.
