Wrapped in ponchos, Brabant fans follow ‘their’ Max Verstappen in the dunes

The Brabant Formula 1 fans are ready. Wrapped in ponchos in Zandvoort because it rains for the first time in Zandvoort during qualifying on Saturday. Rainwater is also expected on Sunday during the race. According to super Max Verstappen fan Bas van Bodegraven from Tilburg, that rain is immediately the biggest difference with the previous two races in the dunes. “Max is very good at that, but there is also a greater risk of accidents.”

Brabant is again well represented in the stands next to the Zandvoort circuit. Photos are shared on social media of socializing with drinks, but also rain ponchos.

“Of course everything is happier when the sun is shining,” says enthusiast Bas Bodegraven. “But the tickets are so expensive that the stands remain filled even when it rains. Such a poncho is many times cheaper than the cheapest ticket of say 350 euros.” Supporters are not allowed to bring an umbrella inside the fences of the circuit. That’s against the house rules.

Bas already followed Max when he drove a go-kart. “About 10 years ago I founded fan club ‘Go Max’. Bas can be found at almost every circuit in Europe where Max drives. He makes live streams of basically everything you don’t see on television. “A week ago I had on my live stream the arrival of trucks containing the racing cars. I film the parties that are there, the people that come pouring in and everything else that comes along.”

Waiting for privacy settings…

He can now support himself by selling tickets and camping places for the races. “I can pay for our camper with which we follow Max’s caravan, our food and drinks plus the tickets for the various matches. My videos are viewed on YouTube by about 15,000 to 20,000 people. The record is 250,000 viewers. That The video happened to be made by my girlfriend,” it sounds a little defeated. “That was when Perez won in Monaco.”

Bas himself will not sit on the grandstand this time, but at the so-called Tarzan corner. “That is after the straight and I expect the most spectacle there, especially when it rains”, it sounds expectant.
