Would you still dare go into the water at 11 degrees?

Swimming in Prinzenbad: At the end of the season, some Berlin cold-blooded horses ventured into the cool water on Sunday. The pool is open again today before the winter break. Meanwhile, the Berlin spa companies took stock of this record autumn.

The temperatures are like those in the Norwegian Sea on the coast of Norway. In 11 degree water temperatures, swimmers ended the outdoor swimming season under the colorful autumn treetops.

Jana B. (40) from Neukölln: “It's too cold to swim, but I went under once. I do this regularly for serotonin levels. In winter I go to the lake. It’s of course nice that you can go into the water in the middle of the city in the fall.”

For some like Christian G. (50) from Mitte, after a short immersion, it was time to take a warm shower. “It feels good, but now I have to warm up.” Others like Niara Mondaca (31) from Weißensee endured an hour in the cold water. “It is a good feeling. “I prefer swimming in cold water to warmer pools,” she says.

The Berlin pool companies are looking forward to a good outdoor pool season. In October alone, 7,902 bathers visited the Prinzenbad. In autumn 2022 there were more than half fewer, at 3,794. With 338,225 visitors, the Prinzenbad was the most frequently visited outdoor pool in Berlin, followed by the Wannsee lido (172,846) and the Sommerbad am Insulaner (168,954).

Jörn (62) and Rukiawaty (50) from Kreuzberg warm up with tea after swimming: “We were in the water for 40 minutes. The first 100 meters are difficult, it hurts. Then it starts to get pleasant.”

Over the entire summer season, 1.5 million bathers visited Berlin’s outdoor pools and the Wannsee lido. Until November 5th you can still sweat in the two barrel saunas at the lido with a view of Lake Wannsee. Then we go into the winter break here too.
