When I was able to report on the king’s state visits to the Baltic States in 2018, I first tasted the armed peace in Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. Among other things, the monarch went to the NATO base in Lithuania to meet Dutch soldiers stationed there. At the time, there was already a threatening air about the unknown Russian danger, which NATO felt compelled to visibly underline its presence in the ‘Baltic’.
