“Worst case” no longer excluded

Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund has been looking for buyers for two of its players for weeks: Manuel Akanji and Nico Schulz. But BVB just can’t get rid of the duo so far. In the meantime, a stay is no longer ruled out. This would prompt another question.

Head coach Edin Terzic has not planned with central defender Manuel Akanji and left-back Nico Schulz for weeks. Neither of the two sales candidates was used in the training camp in Switzerland or in the competitive game opener in the DFB Cup at 1860 Munich (3-0). Because: Terzic prefers to use those players who are definitely available for BVB in the new season.

However, there is still no concrete interest from other clubs for either Akanji or Schulz, reports “Ruhr news“. Thus, the “worst case” at BVB can no longer be ruled out, i.e. the black and yellow will miss the important transfer proceeds for the players this summer and at the same time have to continue to pay the salary – regardless of the lack of sporting perspective.

According to the regional newspaper, the missing millions that Borussia Dortmund had promised when selling Manuel Akanji are also the reason why the runner-up did not get into poker for national player David Raum.

The left-back switched from Hoffenheim to RB Leipzig this summer, but the transfer fee of around 30 million euros was not affordable for BVB without transfer income.

How does BVB deal with Akanji and Schulz after the end of the transfer?

Sports director Sebastian Kehl still has almost a month to find buyers for the two sales candidates. It is not yet clear how BVB and its head coach Edin Terzic will proceed if Akanji and Schulz are still under contract in Dortmund.

“Bild” had previously reported that Akanji could at least be included in the match day squad for the Bundesliga opener against Bayer Leverkusen because of the injury to central defender Niklas Süle. According to “Ruhr Nachrichten”, after the transfer deadline, it is also about leaving the Swiss in the squad for a possible change in winter.
