Worry lines at BVB: Kobel injured on duty in Switzerland

Around a week before Borussia Dortmund’s home game against Borussia Mönchengladbach, BVB has to worry about the use of regular goalkeeper Gregor Kobel, who was injured during an international match with Switzerland.

The worry lines at Borussia Dortmund are likely to be big at the moment. BVB keeper Gregor Kobel suffered an injury during the international break, as the Swiss association announced. Accordingly, the national goalkeeper of Germany’s neighboring country will miss the upcoming international match against Kosovo on Saturday.

The reason: unspecified muscular problems. However, these seem to be so serious that Kobel is traveling back to Dortmund on Sunday.

Anthony Racioppi from the Young Boys from Bern was nominated to replace the veteran, who is once again showing strong performances for the Bundesliga club from the Ruhr area this season.

Switzerland only played 1-1 against Israel on Wednesday thanks to a late equalizer and missed early qualification for next year’s tournament in Germany. Due to the draw, leaders Switzerland in Group I still need a point from the remaining two games.

Kobel watched the entire catch-up game on Wednesday from the bench; former Gladbach and Munich player Yann Sommer, who has been active for Inter Milan since August, was in goal for the Swiss.

BVB is worried about Kobel

It initially remained unclear whether Kobel would be available for BVB’s Bundesliga home game on Saturday after the international break against Gladbach (November 25th, 3:30 p.m.).

For now, further investigations must be carried out in Dortmund. If Kobel fails, this will mean a significant weakening for BVB, whose performance is currently extremely fluctuating.

If the worst comes to the worst, Meyer Alexander would move into goal for the Swiss. The substitute was already between the posts this season in the 3-3 draw against Eintracht Frankfurt at the end of October.
