Worries about drought, but farmers don’t panic (yet)

For the time being, the crops are not yet being watered en masse. Farmers prefer to wait a little longer. “When you start irrigating and there is no precipitation, you have to keep doing it. And that costs a lot of money.”

“We can go another 4 weeks without rain, but not much longer”

“Of course we fear for the harvest in the much longer term if it remains so dry, but we do that every year. Today, for example, it is cloudy and that is good because there is less evaporation,” say the farmers.

“What has already been sown still grows reasonably well. Beet, flax, chicory, maize… it’s all still OK. The cabbages, which are plants that have been planted with a lump of soil on them, are still doing well. can certainly go up to 4 weeks without rain… but it shouldn’t last.”
