Angelo Stiller’s ankle was the problem topic at VfB before the cup final. After the triumph, the discussion continues.
After his timely comeback for the DFB Cup victory with VfB Stuttgart, Angelo Stiller did not want to make a forecast for the next quick title attack. It remained open whether he will be operational for the Nations League final tournament with the national soccer team in early June.
“I don’t know now. I’m not there now, just. I just want to celebrate and that is enough,” said Stiller after the 4-2 victory against Arminia Bielefeld in the Berlin Olympic Stadium. Almost two weeks after his ligament injury in his right foot, the 24-year-old had held for 87 minutes until his late replacement and played a significant part in the success of the Swabians with two preparations for the goal.
National coach Julian Nagelsmann had nominated Stiller for his contingent despite the injury in the end of the season. The DFB team will play on June 4 (9:00 p.m./ZDF) in Munich in the semi-finals of the UEFA competition against Portugal. Possible final opponents are Spain or France four days later.
How his foot would be after the stress was asked. “Unimportant,” was his tight answer. The return was obviously not without any problems. “From the 60th minute, when it became more physically exhausting, I already noticed it. I wanted to get out in time, but that didn’t work anymore. But it doesn’t matter, the main thing is that we won,” he said.
