Former Dutch national soccer player Marc Overmars (50) has lodged an appeal against the worldwide professional ban imposed by the world association FIFA.
“One case of cross-border behavior does not justify a global work ban,” an Overmar spokesman told media representatives on Monday, saying the verdict was “exaggerated.” It is not yet known when the appeal hearing will take place.
In his position as sports director of top Dutch club Ajax Amsterdam, Overmars had sent inappropriate photos and messages to several employees, and later apologized for his behavior.
In November 2023, the former professional was banned from working in Dutch football for one year plus another year on probation. This was expanded by the FIFA Disciplinary Committee at the beginning of January. Overmars is currently sports director at Belgian champions Royal Antwerp.
