“Hugely proud”

We are extremely proud that in 2026 the Netherlands will once again be the center of the world when it comes to attention for equal and acquired rights”, Lucien Spee, director Pride Amsterdam, responds to the winning of the event. “At the same time, our country can now work to show that we will again belong to the top of forerunners and guide countries, because we are now too low on many lists.”

WorldPride was first celebrated in Rome in 2000 and has been held every two to three years since 2012. Even more than regular Pride parties, WorldPride guarantees hundreds of thousands of visitors from all over the world. It is often the biggest LGBTIQ+ event of the year. The 2019 edition, in New York, attracted more than 4 million people.
