The world triathlon association has introduced a special regulation for transgender athletes.
To be eligible to start in women’s competitions, a maximum testosterone concentration of 2.5 nanomoles per liter must not be exceeded over a period of two years.
In addition, the athlete in question must not have competed in the male category in the previous four years.
The regulation is based on a multi-year consultation process with medical experts, athletes and transgender associations.
According to the world association, the regulations that are effective immediately are “a living document” and should be adapted depending on experience.
