World Short Track Speed Skating Championships in Seoul | This is when Suzanne Schulting and the other Dutchmen come into action | To skate

The World Short Track Speed Skating Championships start Friday morning (06:00 Dutch time) in Seoul, South Korea. View all Dutch participants and the complete program for this weekend here.

The Dutch team won six medals at the World Short Track Speed Skating Championships in 2022. Xandra Velzeboer won gold in the 500 meters, bronze in the 1000 meters and bronze in the all-round classification. Yara van Kerkhof finished third in the 500 meters. The women took a bronze medal in the relay, the men silver.

Suzanne Schulting was the major absentee due to a corona infection last year. The 25-year-old Schulting hopes for a repeat of 2021. In that year she won all individual distances and the relay with the women’s team at the world championship.

Xandra Velzeboer, just like Schulting, is a big contender for winning the 500 meters. The 21-year-old from Culemborg conquered the world cup this year on the shortest distance in short track with force majeure. Schulting is the woman to beat in the 1000 and 1500 meters, Velzeboer and Selma Poutsma are outsiders for a medal.

With the men, Jens van ‘t Wout may not be the big favorite at all distances, but he is a dangerous customer that the competition will take into account. This season he won three World Cup competitions (500, 1000 and 1500 meters). Medals for Itzhak de Laat, Sjinkie Knegt, Teun Boer and Friso Emons would be a surprise.
