American Max Park, 21, catapulted himself into the history books by solving a Rubik’s cube in a mind-boggling 3.13 seconds. The cube to be solved was a traditional 3x3x3 model.

The previous record of 3.47 seconds was held by a Chinese Yusheng Du for more than four years.
The world record is not Park’s first. He also possesses world records for solving 4x4x4 and 7x7x7 models of cubes, as well as for solving with one hand. Park has also appeared in Netflix’s Rubik’s Cube documentary The Speed Cubers.
Park set his record in California called Pride in Long Beach in a competitive event. The world record was broken in the first round of the race.
Park won the race with an average result of 6.24 seconds. The runner-up in the competition was a Taiwanese Derek Hsieh with a result of 7.86 seconds and a South Korean in third place Kyeongmin Choi with a result of 7.98 seconds.
A total of 99 people competed in the 3x3x3 series of the competition.
