Argentines already record winners
Argentinian world champion captain Lionel Messi can hope for the next personal award. As expected, the 35-year-old is one of the three finalists in the FIFA World Player of the Year election, as the world association announced on Friday. In addition to the Paris Saint-Germain playmaker, his PSG teammates Kylian Mbappé (24) and Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema (35) are also among the top three.
The winner will be chosen on February 27 at a gala hosted by the world governing body FIFA in Paris. A jury made up of national team captains, coaches, journalists and fans voted until February 3rd.
The men’s favorite is Messi, who led Argentina to victory over France in the World Cup final in Qatar in December. As a six-time world footballer, he is already the record holder.
