World Pancho Day: 8 options you have to try

The classic “hot dog” has its special moment in the year and is celebrated worldwide on Monday, April 24. A selection of the already known and their unique and incomparable variations.

Trying different flavors is always a good plan and that can be done at Patio de los Lecheros (Donato Álvarez 175, Caballito), where the Dirty Dog space surprises with a Patagonian hot dog that combines red Vienna bread, an artisan sausage from lamb, roast bell pepper and mushrooms. On April 24, this special variety will be available along with other equally innovative options. In addition, they will offer a combo of two classic hot dogs for $2,000.

Another place to try this street food classic is AVG Electric Café (Av. Infanta Isabel 110, Palermo), where, in addition to specialty coffee, breakfasts and brunches, they have signature dishes like their Pancho Electric. Served on a Viennese bun, it consists of a double-cooked frankfurter (boiled and finished in the clay oven), pickled gherkins, Dijon mustard and fried sweet potato. On Hot Dog Day, it will be on sale along with a $2,500 pint of Goose Island.

For those who like spice, some varieties of Cinema Burger are recommended, a spot specializing in hamburgers and hot dogs inside the Mercado de los Carruajes (Leandro N. Alem 852, Retiro). The Chilidog, which combines German-style sausage, crispy fried onion, melted cheddar cheese, a chili con carne sauce, and jalapenos, on a Vienna bun, is worth a try. They also have other alternatives, including some vegetarian ones, which on April 24 will be offered in two combos: with onion rings, fries and a drink for $2,000 or with chicken nuggets, fries and a drink for $2,100.

The Grizzly beer bar (Palestina 1107, Villa Crespo), also joins the festivities with a hot dog off the menu: the Chicago Style. It comes out in a soft potato bread with a Frankwurst sausage from the Corte Comedor brand, tomato, onion, bell pepper and mustard, accompanied by homemade fries. In addition, they will have another version with a German imprint. The entire menu of this place inspired by a mountain refuge is paired with a select variety of beers from the most prestigious artisan producers in the country.

Continuing with the original options, at the Baum de Palermo Viejo brewery (José A. Cabrera 4427, Palermo) they have a hot dog with Mexican flavors that blends in with the imprint of the place. The Hot Dog has a German sausage wrapped in bacon and fried, with caramelized onion, melted Tybo cheese, Parmesan and, of course, homemade guacamole. It arrives at the table in a warm homemade bread with French fries, you can add a spicy house sauce or some other dressing and its price is $2,490.

Quebracho wood-smoked meats are the specialty of Bruce Grill Station (Martín Fierro 3246, Parque Leloir y Mayor Irusta 2921, Bella Vista) and their new Italian pancho follows this line. They do it with a German sausage cooked on the coals, bolognese sauce au gratin and traditional pesto. It should be noted that the potato brioche bread with which they serve it is made by themselves. Like the other three hot dogs on the menu, it costs $1,600 and can be paired with carefully selected craft beers, cocktails, and wines.

With a marked Yankee style, the American hot dog from El Galpón de Tacuara (Honduras 5560, Palermo, and more branches in CABA, GBA and Rosario) is a must, with traditional hot dog bread, a German-type sausage cooked with its skin, fried onions , crispy bacon and cheddar cheese. The “plus” is that, in addition to fries, it comes with nachos with provolone cheese sauce, for $1,850. The menu also includes a hot dog with a Mexican imprint and a wide variety of beers created by brewmaster Gabriel Furnari.

At Hierbabuena Vegan (Av. Caseros 466, San Telmo), they have a hot dog made only with plant-based ingredients, reminiscent of the distinctive flavor of German sausage. The Super Plant Hot Dog has a sausage prepared with tofu, organic rice, merkén, garlic, sweet and smoked paprika, soy sauce and liquid smoke. Served on a brioche bun, it is complemented with a cucumber relish, vegan mayonnaise, homemade ketchup, pie potatoes and aromatic herbs, and served with French fries. On the day of the hot dog, they will also have a Corn Dog off the menu: a sausage stuffed with vegetable cheese, coated in corn dough and accompanied with ranch sauce and coleslaw, for $2,500 with a beer included.
