How did the proposal to have a world home office day come about?
It was born from a brainstorm regarding what action to take for World Car Free Day, which is September 22. We first thought about having all our employees work from home, and then the question arose: Why not encourage others to do it?
But you are a transfer company
Yes, and we love what we do. But we also love the planet we live on and we want the next generations to live better than us. We are a company committed to the environment and our social environment.
What other actions do you take to care for the environment?
The first measure is to reduce emissions, seeking to make transportation efficient. For example, carpooling or using minibuses. We also encourage and give benefits to drivers who bring hybrid cars and, in our offices, we have solar panels installed that reduce energy consumption. Then comes remeasurement. Every year, we measure the carbon we emit and work on offsetting it together with Banco de Bosques.
And all actions are carried out by a CSR department?
We believe that sustainability is more than just CSR. We are a B company, that is, with triple impact (economic, environmental and social). This forces us, gladly, to ensure that sustainability crosses all areas. It is not enough for a sector to lower some standards from time to time; it must be a filter in every decision we make within the company.
Do your clients value these actions with the environment?
Many yes, in fact, a part of this was born with an initiative of one of our clients, Mercado Libre. In Argentina we were pioneers (we are the only B company for transfers in all of America), but some competitors have already taken it and started with actions of this style. And it really makes us happy because we don’t aspire to be the only ones, on the contrary, we want everyone to join in.
Returning to “world home office day”: Are you going to continue it next year?
Completely. Not only continue it, the idea is to have more companies join us every year. You’ll laugh, but absolute success will be when they don’t even ask for a transfer that day. We know it is difficult, but we believe that when an idea has good intentions, it will be successful. Let’s think that many years ago an Argentinian thought of celebrating a friend’s day.
