World first offers rescue of northern white rhino: successful embryo transfer performed for the first time

For the first time, scientists have managed to get a rhino pregnant by transplanting an embryo. This happened in the context of the ‘BioRescue Project’, a consortium that is trying to save the northern white rhino using in vitro fertilization techniques. There are only two of this subspecies left in the world. There is also a Belgian side to this story, because it is the Pairi Daiza Foundation that not only supports this project but also contributes to it.
