The German ice dance champions Jennifer Janse van Rensburg and Benjamin Steffan finished 15th at their first figure skating world championship. The title went to a US couple.
Solid debut for Jennifer Janse van Rensburg and Benjamin Steffan: The German ice dance champions ended the world title fights in Saitama, Japan, with a solid freestyle in 15th place would have resulted, but were missing more than 20 points.
At this year’s European Championships, the duo came in ninth place. “We are relieved and just happy. It was very exhausting. We learned here to concentrate even more on ourselves during the competition.”said Steffan, his partner added: “We also took a lot of inspiration for our new programs with us.”
US pair win title despite fall
Madison Chock and Evan Bates from the USA won the title just outside of Tokyo. The Olympic fourth-placed in Beijing, who were already leading after the rhythm dance, won despite a fall in the freestyle ahead of the Italian European champions Charlene Guignard and Marco Fabbri, third place went to Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier from Canada.
