World Diabetes Day: Nicole Danneels was diagnosed 4 years ago
Four years ago, Nicole had a hard time accepting a diagnosis of diabetes. That was a heavy blow mentally, but in the meantime she sees a future again. She accepted that from now on she would have to take insulin four times a day. Nicole has a positive attitude. She eats healthy and moves a lot.
There is life after diabetes, but you never get used to it. 90% of all cases are type 2 diabetes. Type 1 occurs mainly in young people and is a genetic disorder.
“Type two is more likely to get you at an older age and then it manifests more gradually. One can try to solve this by first adopting a healthy lifestyle, then switching to medication and only then, when it really is no longer necessary.” can switch to insulin injections,” says Geert Van Vlaenderen of the Diabetesliga Brugge.
