World Cup | Wierer: “You also have to be realistic”

There is always speculation about Dorothea Wierer’s future. Before the upcoming Biathlon World Championships in Nove Mesto, the Italian commented on the rumors.

“I’ll concentrate as best as I can for the next two weeks and get everything out of myself,” said Wierer at “sportnews.bz” and added: “Once the World Cup is over, I’ll have time to think about the future.”

The 33-year-old recently indicated that she had already made a decision. “Only me and my husband Stefano know her. I made this decision right now during my break. At the end of the season I will reveal it, but at the moment I’m not saying anything,” she said in an interview with the newspaper “Corrie dello Sport “.

Wierer has so far experienced a biathlon season to forget. The ski hunter was repeatedly set back by illnesses.

Wierer completely missed the World Cups in Oberhof and Ruhpolding at the beginning of January. In Antholz she made her comeback in the individual and finished in a solid 14th place. With the Italian mixed relay she achieved a strong second place.

Nevertheless, Wierer went deep: “You don’t get back into shape so quickly if you’ve been sick for a long time. I’ll make the best of the situation, but you also have to be realistic.”

Wierer has already won four gold World Championship medals in her career so far. There are also five silver and three bronze medals. She won the overall World Cup in the 2018/2019 season and the following winter 2019/2020.
