The famous FIFA World Cup It is a trophy of 6,142 kilograms, which, every four years, is delivered to the winner of each World Cup. Since the beginning of the competition in 1930, there have been two different types of statuettes: the trophy Jules Rimet (from 1930 to 1970, when it was in the hands of Brazil for winning 3 World Cups) and the trophy of the fifa World Cup, from 1974 to the present.
The Jules Rimet Trophy it was the original prize for the selected World Cup champions. Originally it had the name of “Victory”but it was usually called simply the World Cup”, was officially renamed in 1946 to honor the then President of FIFA, Jules Rimet who collaborated to create the competition.
Designed by abel lafleur and made of gold-plated sterling silver with a blue malachite base, it stood 35cm tall and weighed 3.8kg. The figurine was housed in a cabinet with a bulletproof glass front, but its wooden back was pried open. Ultimately, four men were tried and found guilty of the crime, concluding that the Jules Rimet trophy had been melted down.
