Already working on an interim basis in 2016
The Iraqi Football Association announced on Thursday that Abdul-Ghani Shahad, who was previously in charge of Naft Al-Wassat, will take over as coach for the remaining games in Asia’s World Cup qualifiers.
At the beginning of the month, Zeljko Petrovic was the third coach to be fired in a short time. As early as 2016, Shahad took over the role on an interim basis for one game. With eight games out of ten, Iraq are fifth of six in Group A without a win and are just outsiders in third place, good enough for the play-offs.
