World Cup participant Sebastian Rudy ends his career

He shaped the history of TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, also laced up the football boots for VfB Stuttgart and FC Schalke 04, became German champions with FC Bayern and played 29 international matches for the DFB team – now Sebastian Rudy has his career completed.

Sebastian Rudy is hanging up his soccer kicks! This emerges from a video that the 33-year-old published on Wednesday in cooperation with his long-time club TSG 1899 Hoffenheim. In it, numerous Sinsheim players turn to the midfielder and wish him, sometimes extremely emotionally, only the best for his future life.

The Bundesliga club also put another video online in which Rudy’s long-time teammate and friend Oliver Baumann talks to Rudy about his career. Rudy makes it clear that it is “definitely” professional. “I still enjoy football, I won’t give it up. I’m on the lookout a bit and watch one or two district league games,” announced the midfielder.

Rudy played 327 competitive games for TSG (17 goals/47 assists) and thus the majority of his professional appearances. Only Baumann was active more often for the men from Kraichgau in the Bundesliga.

Returning to TSG 1899 Hoffenheim is certainly an issue

In the summer of 2023, Hoffenheim did not extend the ex-German international’s expiring contract and announced back then that they had already “held initial discussions with him about a possible future at TSG after his active career”.

“I’m someone who might want to start a second career. I don’t know how much time I need and what I’ll do in the end. I still have to think a little bit about what I enjoy and what excites me.” said Rudy in this context.

Rudy was part of the 2017 Confederations Cup winners and played against Sweden at the 2018 World Cup.
