Luisa Niemesch has secured the German Wrestling Federation (DRB) the first starting place for the 2024 Summer Olympics. The athlete from the North Baden club SV Germania Weingarten lost her small final for bronze at the World Championships in Belgrade on Thursday evening, but then won the fight for fifth place in the weight class up to 62 kilograms against Bulgarian Biljana Dudowa.

Only the respective top 5 of the Olympic classes secure their country a quota place at the World Cup in Serbia for next year’s highlight in Paris. There will only be further chances to fight for an Olympic ticket again at the qualifying tournaments in the spring.

Second Olympic participation after 2016

For the 28-year-old Niemesch, it is the second time since Rio 2016 that she has made it to the Games. Her teammates, like the German freestyle men, missed out on the coveted Olympic tickets at the World Championships in Belgrade. Some of the Greco-Roman wrestlers are still in use. The title fights end next Sunday.
