World Cup, Holland in Qatar with Van Gaal. Then Koeman returns

The coach has revealed that he has a tumor, but the federation trusts him and he will only change his coach in 2023

Louis Van Gaal at the World Cup, then Holland will pass into the hands of Ronald Koeman. The Dutch federation with a tweet this morning announced that the national team will return in the hands of the ’88 European champion in 2023, once the experience in Qatar is over, thus satisfying the will of the current coach who has recently told of being very sick.

The illness

Van Gaal, 70, has in fact revealed that since 2020 he has been fighting a tough battle against prostate cancer, adding that he has already undergone 25 sessions of radiotherapy, even at night during the national team retreats. Until a few days ago the oranje players didn’t know anything about it: “You don’t say such a thing to the people you work with, they can be influenced. For the boys I’m healthy, but it’s not like that.” Hence the decision to leave after the World Cup to devote himself solely to treatment. The federation is on his side.

The return

Koeman therefore returns to the bench of the national team he left in 2020 to become the Barcelona coach. He first became coach on February 6, 2018, when he took over from Advocaat, resigned after failing to qualify for the Russian World Cup. With Koeman the oranje obtains excellent results, including a comfortable qualification for Euro 2020.
