As of: 06/28/2022 5:48 p.m

Water jumper Moritz Wesemann tested positive for the corona virus and therefore missed the World Cup final from the three-meter board.

The 20-year-old had tested positive for the virus on Tuesday morning (June 28, 2022) using a quick test. The result of a subsequent PCR test was not available shortly before the competition in the afternoon.

“This development hits us as a team and especially Moritz personally very hard, but health always comes first for us”head national coach Lutz Buschkow was quoted in a statement by the German Swimming Association. “That’s why we are consistently implementing the specifications of the hygiene concept for these world championships.” Wesemann wished the other starters via Instagram “good luck and success”.

No other positive tests so far

The corona tests carried out on the other team members were negative. “Like almost all of our active players, Moritz occupies a single room and is now being isolated, but we will also carefully test everyone else in the coming days.”said Bushkov. Whether Wesemann can take part in the world championship competition from the one-meter board on Thursday depends on the result of the PCR test.

Wesemann entered the final of the three-meter board in fifth place in the prelim. The man from Aachen was not one of the favorites in the fight for medals at his first major event.
