World Cup 2022: The knockout round – these are Germany’s possible opponents

Status: 11/29/2022 11:31 p.m

On Thursday (December 1st, 2022, 8:00 p.m.) Germany will play for a place in the round of 16 of the World Cup. If the DFB-Elf reaches the knockout phase, the following opponents could wait in the further course of the World Cup.

Germany can only progress second in Group E with Spain, Japan and Costa Rica. If the DFB-Elf succeeds, they will play against the first in Group F in the round of 16. This is currently led by Croatia ahead of Morocco and Belgium. These three teams can still progress, Canada is out early.

Should the DFB-Elf reach the round of 16, they will play against one of these three teams on December 6th, 2020 (4 p.m., Education City Stadium in Al-Rayyan).

Possible World Cup quarterfinals of the DFB-Elf in Al-Thumama

If Germany wins the round of 16, they will face either the first in Group H or the second in Group G in the quarter-finals. In Group H, only Portugal and Ghana can become group winners.

Six possible quarter-final opponents – including Brazil

It’s tight in Group G: Mathematically, each of the four teams Brazil, Switzerland, Cameroon or Serbia can still finish in second place. This leaves six possible quarter-final opponents. The match will take place on 10/12/2022 (16:00) at Al-Thumama Stadium in Doha. The second semi-final will take place on December 13, 2022 (8 p.m., Lusail Iconic Stadium in Lusail).

World champions France could wait in the semi-finals

The further way through the tournament would then lead Germany to the Al-Bayt Stadium in Al-Khor, where the semi-finals (December 14, 2022, 8 p.m.) will take place. Possible opponents: Group D winner (France or Australia), Group C runners-up (Portugal, Argentina, Saudi Arabia, Mexico), Group B winner (England) or Group A runners-up (Senegal).
