Only Hakimi more expensive?
Beat Belgium in the group stage, knocked out Spain and Portugal in the knockout stages: Morocco are the big surprise at the World Cup in Qatar. It is hardly surprising that players who were not particularly in focus before are now moving into this. One of these is midfielder Azzedine Ounahi. In the past few days there have been rumors of interest in the 22-year-old professional from Ligue 1 bottom Angers SCO – from LOSC Lille to AC Florence to FC Sevilla and FC Barcelona. With Leicester City, the sports paper brings “L’Equipe‘ the most concrete rumor so far.

Accordingly, the “Foxes” are ready to pay several tens of millions of euros for Ounahi. It was even said from England that up to 45 million were being discussed. If the right-footed player actually changes for this sum, he ranks second among the most expensive transfers by Moroccan professionals behind Achraf Hakimi (24) – went for 68 million euros including bonuses paid so far from Inter to PSG. Hakimi, Hakim Ziyech (29; Chelsea) and last summer Nayef Aguerd (26), who went to West Ham for 35 million, only cost more than 30 million twice.

Just one Angers sale above 20m – President: ‘Let’s prepare for anything’
The alleged Leicester rival from Barcelona, reported the “Mundo Deportivo‘ lately, actually saw Ounahi as a cost-effective option. If the Premier League club rumor turns out to be true, that thought would be history. For Angers, Ounahi would be the most expensive in the club’s history for every transfer over 25 million euros. That’s how much Jeff Reine-Adélaïde (24) cost in 2019 when he moved to Lyon. The club has only earned 10 million or more for a player six times.
Angers President Saïd Chabane recently said when “RMC Sports” Regarding possible transfers from Ounahi and his Moroccan teammate Sofiane Boufal (29): “We are preparing for everything. We had a meeting with the coach and the sports coordinator in the afternoon to think of all the possible scenarios so that we wouldn’t be left stranded if the worst came to the worst. (…) You know very well that you can never hold back a player who wants to leave.”
At 3.5 million euros, Ounahi has so far been modestly valued in terms of market value. This should change soon after the World Cup: an update on the participants from Qatar is scheduled for December 23rd.
