World Cup 2022 in Qatar – Louis van Gaal attacks Fifa: “That’s bullshit”

In eight months, the World Cup will start in Qatar. She is the most controversial in history. Louis van Gaal also doesn’t think much of the tournament in the Gulf state.

With Denmark and Germany, the Netherlands have tough friendly opponents in front of their chests in the coming days. But before these games, Bonds coach Louis van Gaal drew attention to himself with statements on a different topic.

At a press conference on Monday, the 70-year-old voiced sharp criticism of the upcoming World Cup in Qatar: “I think it’s ridiculous that we’re going to play in a country in order – as Fifa says – to develop football there by having a tournament is happening. This is bullshit. It’s about money. That’s what Fifa is about.”

The tournament in the Gulf state is very controversial. According to The Guardian, 6,500 guest workers have died since the World Cup was awarded (as of early 2021). According to “Amnesty International” the number is even in the five-digit range. Human rights activists, fans and athletes have repeatedly criticized Fifa as organizers for not exerting enough pressure on Qatar.

The violations of human rights have been documented several times. In some countries there were even discussions about boycotting the tournament.
