Three World Cup participants on playoffs in June
The field of 32 World Cup participants will be completed in the playoff games next June, then the three missing teams will be determined.
In Europe, Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine caused the postponement of a playoff tournament in which a participant is being determined:
Semifinals:
Scotland – Ukraine (postponed to June)
Wales 2-1 Austria
Final:
Wales – Scotland/Ukraine (postponed to June)
In addition, there are the two intercontinental playoffs (June 13/14, 2022 in Qatar), in which two participants will be determined:
Playoff 1: United Arab Emirates or Australia (Asia) – Peru (South America)
Playoff 2: Costa Rica (CONCACAF) – New Zealand (Oceania)
Whether the United Arab Emirates or Australia will take part in the playoff against Peru for Asia will also only be decided in the summer (June 7th, 2022).
