World Cup 2022: DFB debutant Füllkrug wants to “be there every second”

Germany’s World Cup nine, Niclas Füllkrug, is looking to give the finals a full blast regardless of his role.

“Sometimes a tournament takes paths that you can’t even imagine right now. You need every player with 100 percent every second. It doesn’t matter whether he gets a minute to waste time or always plays from the beginning,” said the professional from Werder Bremen in Muscat on Tuesday and promised: “I will try to be ready and to help.”

He has not yet revealed whether Hansi Flick plans to start with the 29-year-old newcomer or as a joker. The national coach, however, has already prepared Füllkrug for his role on the pitch.

“First impressions were given to him via video analysis,” “how my position is to be played and how you can function in this unit,” he said, but pointed out: “I don’t think it will work perfectly on a rush.”

Unusual system for filling jug

Especially since he plays 3-5-2 in the club and Flick prefers a 4-2-3-1 system. Füllkrug emphasized that he deals “a lot” with the differences.

In the first training session on Tuesday before his probable international debut at the World Cup dress rehearsal in Oman on Wednesday (6 p.m. / RTL), he saw “a lot of quality on the pitch”, “especially in the front positions”.

The former junior national player joins the German nine-man tradition in Qatar with names like Fritz Walter, Uwe Seeler and Rudi Völler.

“They were all good guys, real guys. I think I’m a good guy too,” he said with a smile. He is next to the place for “everything that can bring in a good mood and not too bad. I can also laugh at myself.”
