Miltiadis Tentoglou won gold at the World Championships in Athletics in a true long jump thriller in his last attempt.
The Olympic and European champion jumped 8.52 m in the last attempt and in the tightest decision in the history of the World Championships pushed the long-leading Jamaican Wayne Pinnock (8.50) into second place.
Tentoglou and Pinnock were the same length up to the last round, but gold seemed within reach for the Jamaican, because he had the better “second” attempt with 8.40 m – but only by one centimetre.
But then Tentoglou turned it up again with his last chance and won his first world title. Doha World Champion Tajay Gayle (8.27/Jamaica) got bronze – also in the last attempt.
