World Championships in Athletics: 600 doping controls in the athletes’ village

To protect clean athletes, an extensive anti-doping program was launched at the World Athletics Championships in Eugene/USA.

As the independent integrity commission of the world association World Athletics announced, 600 doping tests have already been carried out in the American city’s athletes’ village.

A further 500 controls are planned for the competitions in 49 disciplines from this Friday until July 24th. The tests are carried out in cooperation with the American Anti-Doping Agency (USADA).

For the first time at a World Cup, samples were collected using the blood drop method (Dried Blood Spot/DBS), the statement said. Only a few drops of blood are required for the DBS, which are obtained through a prick in the upper arm. The blood is applied to a special absorbent pad, which is then sealed and sent to accredited doping laboratories for analysis.
