Germany’s women’s hockey have secured participation in the round of 16 at the World Championships in Spain and the Netherlands.
With the smooth 3:0 (1:0) against Ireland, the team of national coach Valentin Altenburg celebrated the second victory at the end of the preliminary round in the third game of group A and thus confidently reached the first stage goal at this World Cup in two countries.
Ireland eliminated without a point
Nike Lorenz (23rd minute/penalty corner), Charlotte Stapenhorst (39th) and Sonja Zimmermann (56th/seven meters) scored the goals for Germany in Amsterdam on Wednesday (07/06/2022). Nike Lorenz even missed another seven meters (60th). The pointless vice world champion from the Emerald Isle was eliminated early on in this championship.
Only the four group winners advance directly to the quarter-finals. The runners-up and third-placed teams will each play the round of 16 at the weekend. On Saturday (5 p.m. / DAZN) it is now against South Africa.
