World champion Umut misses qualifying for the FIFAe World Cup

His single season in FIFA 23 comes to a painful end: Reigning World Champion Umut “RBLZ_Umut” failed to qualify for the FIFAe World Cup. The mission of defending the title ended at the FIFA Global Series playoffs in London.

“I’m so mentally broken,” wrote RBLZ_Umut on his Twitter channel after leaving. He didn’t know “what you have to do in the game to score goals,” he continued.

A penalty separated RBLZ_Umut from qualifying

RBLZ_Umut won the first game against the Argentinian Ezequiel “Ezecorrea1802” Correa comfortably (3:0 and 2:2). A win against Dutchman Damian “damesheet” Sitaram would have been enough for qualification, but after a draw (3:3; 1:1) it went to penalties and from there to the lower bracket (4:5 a.e.t.). The German was finally eliminated against the Portuguese Diogo “tuga810” Pombo (0:3; 2:1).

FIFAe World Cup: Two young players doing well

17-year-old Jonas “Jonny” Wirth and 18-year-old Berkay “BerkayLion” Demirci made it through the upper bracket. Jonny had a German duel in the decisive game: the SC Paderborn 07 player shot Levy Finn “Levyfinn” Rieck into the lower bracket, where the Rostock native was later eliminated.

FIFA is still keeping a low profile when it comes to the official venue and date of the final tournament of this year’s World Cup. The signs point to Saudi Arabia.
