The 85th Tata Steel Chess is very busy early next year. For example, world champion Magnus Carlsen from Norway participates and the number two in the world ranking: the Chinese Ding Liren.
With five players from the top ten, the chess tournament is very well occupied anyway. Carlsen comes to Wijk aan Zee for the nineteenth time. He won eight times before and is the record holder. Dutch attractions are Anish Giri and Jorden van Foreest.
Proud tournament director
“Almost all the top chess players in the world want to participate here in January. We are always looking for a perfect mix between the world’s best and up-and-coming talent. In my opinion, we have succeeded in that again”, tournament director Jeroen van den Berg responds.
The tournament returns in the form it was before corona. This means that spectators are welcome again and the amateurs will play their games in De Moriaan at the same time as the masters. The tournament will be held from January 13 to 29.
