World champion Eevi has never drunk alcohol – “I’m a little different”

24-year-old Eevi Seikkula is an exceptional young woman in many respects.

Hands up everyone who has two World Championship golds and two World Championship silvers from last year.

Hands up, who has also been chosen as Romanian of the Year.

Hands up, if you have also been awarded Rauma’s best athlete 2023 and also awarded Rauma’s Sporting Achievement of the Year 2023.

Raise your hand if you’ve never drunk alcohol.

It’s quiet.

Only one hand goes up.

Competing at the World Championship level for the first time Eevi Seikkula won two World Championship golds and one World Championship silver in the artistic fitness series and a World Championship silver in the bikini fitness series at the beginning of November last year in Santa Susanna, Spain.

Even before this, Seikkula had won five series at the Nordic Fitness Expo in Lahti.

These achievements gave Seikkula widespread recognition in his birthplace, Rauma.

– Last year was the fulfillment of my dreams, I couldn’t believe it. It was about my last junior year and I put a lot of effort into it. World Championship gold was my dream and it came true. The selection as the Peacemaker of the Year came out of the blue. Even being nominated was a surprise. I am really grateful and happy, Seikkula says.

Gap year

Few athletes who have reached Seikkula’s achievements take a gap year from competing after a giant success. This is explained by the demanding nature of the sport and Seikkula’s personality.

– The competition season lasts half a year and demands a lot. I want to study and give my loved ones more time. I can’t do anything with half lights, but I always do everything at full blast, Seikkula states.

Seikkula works as a quality inspector at Rauma Mold Product and, in addition to training, competing and working, has studied social sciences at an open university. Now his goal is to get to university to study social sciences.

– I hope to get a job that is socially significant and where I can advance in my career.

No toasts

Seikkula is also a rare young person in that he has never drunk alcohol. Not even one victory toast after the World Cup success.

– It’s exciting to see what student life is really like. It may seem strange, at least at first, since I have never drunk alcohol. I’m a bit different, very talkative and laughing, Seikkula says.

Seikkula started competitive swimming at the age of 5 and moved to competitive dancing at the age of 12. In 2018, he switched to fitness sports.

– I have always had goals, and drinking alcohol would not have contributed to achieving those goals.

Hard training

Seikkula has by no means abandoned fitness sports. He still trains 6-7 times a week.

– The training is pretty much the same as in the competition season; gym training, deep stretching, poses… there is a lot to do.

However, the gap year between competitions gives Seikkula the opportunity to enjoy himself a little.

– I love chocolate! I was able to eat a lot of it at Christmas without a bad conscience. Now you don’t have to be so particular about your diet.

“Here’s Everything”

Studying takes Seikkula from Rauma to another city.

– Tampere is probably number one among the options, because I know the city. But the place of study does not matter.

Seikkula is full of praise for his current hometown.

– I like Rauma’s sense of community and people. Entrepreneurs and sports are supported here. Old Rauma is really beautiful and the locality is known as a lace town. I can’t immediately think of what I would be here without. Everything I need is here, Seikkula says.
