World Biathlon Association focuses on energy issues

The biathlon world association relies on family cohesion in the association to deal with the energy crisis.

“We have the topic on the screen,” said Daniel Böhm, Sports Director of the IBU, at the Forum Nordicum in Kranjska Gora, Slovenia. There is already a working group that is developing specific formats for action. The aim is to be able to react promptly to problems with the organizers and local organizing committees.

At the moment, however, no one knows exactly what could happen to biathlon sport. “However, in the past we have always managed to find replacements at short notice in the biathlon family. This is why no competition was canceled during the corona pandemic,” added IBU Communications Director Christian Winkler.

The organizing committees of IBU events are already being asked to examine energy saving options and make appropriate adjustments, said Böhm. In 2014 he won silver with the German biathlon relay at the Winter Olympics and a year later became relay world champion.

On Wednesday, the Ski World Association Fis did not rule out event cancellations in the coming winter at the Forum Nordicum. One tries to relocate World Cups if problems arise. However, if cancellations are made one month before the start, no replacement can be found.
