At the finish line, the four fingers were immediately set, the record of Usain Bolt is set: “Gold Lock” Noah Lyles won a great 200-meter final at the Athletics World Cup in Tokyo.
The “four” was in a row for his fourth world title on this route-this record had previously held the Jamaican sprint legend Usain Bolt alone. The winning time of 19.52 seconds was not entirely sufficient to the world record of Bolt, which is 19.19 seconds. Third place went to Kenneth Bednarek (19.58) from the USA ahead of Bolt’s compatriot Bryan Lvell (19.64).
Shoulder on shoulder again with Bednarek
There had been a very tight duel between Bednarek and Lyles six weeks ago-both of them had clashed in Eugene at the end of the 200-meter run. There were first provocative looks, then thrust and then evil words – this time everything stayed peaceful and fair in Tokyo.
With 19.51 seconds, the 28-year-old sent an impressive sign, it was the fastest time this year.
The world record comes from a World Cup final, in 2009 Bolt ran 19.19 seconds in Berlin.
