Argentine politics always managed to mix solemnity with show, and the fifth of Olivos was living proof. The president summoned the national candidates of Libertad advances with the aim of giving “clear guidelines” for the October elections. But what began as a strategy meeting ended up looking like the Avant-Première of a delusional sitcom.
“It was a meeting to put together the troop,” said one of those present, with an enthusiasm similar to that announces a consortium meeting. Javier Milei talked about economics, foreign policy and security. So far, everything inside the script. But behind the scene was what made the day into memes material.
Because in addition to the usual referents, several exponents of the “extended libertarian universe” appeared in olive trees. Influencers, media characters and self -proclaimed paladins of anarchocapitalism paraded as if the presidential residence was Comic with. Among them, the youtuber tronko, the omnipresent Iñaki, Diego Recalde, and – to crown the day – the same magician without teeth. Yes, the magician. That which for years was part of the political decoration of the PRO, as campaign pet and plenipotentiary ambassador of Argentine surrealism.
His image at the entrance soon went viral. In a matter of hours, the magician’s photo in the fifth became fuel for tweet creativity. They edited him as Barney, replaced by Darth Vader, exchanged with sad Chaplin, and even disguised from Messi with a folder under his arm. Katy Perry also appeared, because if there is something that the networks do not tolerate, it is linear logic.

Meanwhile, within the meeting, Milei was looking for the composure of his communication troop. “This is here,” he harangued, as if with that phrase he reached to order the libertarian chaos. The candidates listened seriously, but the emergence of such a zoo remained drama to any slogan.

There were not too many self -criticism due to Buenos Aires defeat or references to the legislative vetoes that collapsed in Congress. The tone was rather light, with winks to what was done and promises that “the best is yet to come.” Some of those then agreed that the weather looked more like a libertarian kerme than a political summit.

Some were excited, convinced that the call was “to strengthen the campaign.” Others, on the other hand, seemed to have attended a stand-up festival that generated greater concern.

Milei will continue to battle with the script that led him to the first line of politics. He already has acts in Córdoba, Mendoza and Santa Fe, although after olive trees more than one fears that each scenario adds a new star of the libertarian absurd.
Because in his attempt to regroup forces after the Buenos Aires stroke, Milei ended up organizing something more similar to a casting meeting than to a party meeting. Political communication manuals would say that it was an error, the networks celebrated it as only they know: pure parody.
