The chain bridge alone will be passed four times in one direction and four times in the other direction. With glorious sunshine, the weather is still ideal for a sightseeing tour, but it is doubtful whether the athletes feel like it when the temperatures are already very warm. The race begins.

Since 2001, the world championship title in the men’s marathon has been firmly in Kenyan hands. A duel between Kenyan and Ethiopian runners is expected again this year. Among them are the Ethiopian title holder Tamirat Tola, his compatriot Deso Gelmisa, winner of the Tokyo marathon and Kenyan Joshua Belet, who came second in the Hamburg marathon. After Tom Gröschel’s heel injury, the German team has shrunk to two athletes. Johannes Motschmann and Haftom Welday want to sell themselves dearly in Budapest.
