Brigitte van Eck, director of Theater aan het Vrijthof in Maastricht, is looking forward to the King’s Day concert. That will take place on Monday evening in the theater in the presence of King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima.
According to the director, a special program has been put together.
Classical concert
“The program was partly created by the South Netherlands Philharmonic in collaboration with Opera Zuid. Among other things, works by Beethoven are shown, so fairly classical,” Van Eck said on L1 Radio on Monday.
Cellist Eline Hensels and city carillonneur Frank Steijns will also be collaborating. The pianist brothers Jussen will also give a performance. “So it will be a very nice and varied program tonight.”

“Months in the weather”
The organization of the King’s Day concert took quite a long time. “We have been working on it for days, if not months. Both in the hall and in the technology, a lot is being set in motion. Everyone works hard to make it look neat down to the last detail.”
‘Very honoured’
Van Eck says he is very honored to receive the royal couple. “It is very special and that gives extra cachet. Not only the royal couple is coming, but also all the people who will make King’s Day 2022 a success.”
The director cannot so much name one highlight of the concert. “I think it’s a total, I can’t talk about a highlight. The fact that the King and Queen visit Maastricht and that the King’s Day concert takes place in our theater is a big highlight in itself.”
