Work on A2 and N2 near Eindhoven is ahead of schedule: ‘Monday will certainly work’

1/4 Work on the A2/N2.

Another week and then the work on the A2/N2 ring road near Eindhoven will be finished. For a month, work was carried out there on a new tunnel, which should connect industrial areas in the north and west of the city with each other and with the A58 motorway. Traffic had to reckon with major traffic nuisance, but in the end it wasn’t too bad.

200 people work day and night on the installation of a tunnel box of millions of kilos under the A2 motorway and the N2 ring road between the Leenderheide and Batadorp interchanges.

“There are few complaints and we are eleven hours ahead of schedule.”

The work is almost done. Alderman Stijn Steenbakkers will come to take a look at the new tunnel on Tuesday afternoon. “I think it’s really special to see,” he says. “It is going well beyond expectations. There are few complaints and we are eleven hours ahead of schedule.”

The work must be completed by next Monday and all lanes on the A2 and N2 must be free again. “The latest reports are that this will also be successful. The greatest risks in such a project have already been passed. They mainly concern what kind of soil you find and what the groundwater level is. Now it is really in the final stage.”

“There is really some nuisance, but less than expected.”

The ‘serious traffic nuisance’ that was warned about has not been so bad in recent weeks. “There is really nuisance, but less than expected,” says the alderman. “That’s very nice. Only a week left and after that we will benefit from the result together for a long time.”

The new tunnel is intended to connect the Goods Distribution Center (GDC) on the north side of Eindhoven with Eindhoven Airport, the Flight Forum and Brainport Industries Campus. GDC freight traffic will also have a direct connection to the A58.

Traffic is not yet able to drive through the new tunnel. This still has to be completed and access roads still need to be made. The tunnel is expected to be put into operation next summer.
