For Timo Boll, the dozen is full: The European record champion won the German table tennis championship for the twelfth time with Borussia Düsseldorf. And with a handicap.
Table tennis European champion Timo Boll from Borussia Düsseldorf played with a broken rib in the successful final of the German team championship. The Düsseldorf team confirmed this on Saturday evening after the 3-2 win against 1. FC Saarbrücken in the Frankfurt Ball Sports Hall.
Boll himself did not want to address his injury. “We’re just enjoying the moment and are happy about this win after a great season,” said the 41-year-old. The top player of the German record champions had previously lost his singles against the Slovenian Darko Jorgic in 1:3 sets. The decisive point for Düsseldorf was taken by doubles Kristian Karlsson and Dang Qiu in 3:0 sets against Jorgic and Tomas Polansky from Saarbrücken.
As a result, Borussia Düsseldorf won the 32nd championship title in the club’s history. Boll was involved in twelve of these successes and drew level with the former Düsseldorf idol Eberhard Schöler on Saturday after German team titles.
