The meaning of the term balaclava – or rather Blalaklava – is known: the name of the very cold city where the British received a resounding defeat by the Russian militias in 1854, during the Crimean War. But today as then, the name indicates the soft and enveloping knit hat, capable of partially or totally hiding the face depending on the design. A lever trick to keep warm, which over the years has turned into a glamorous accessory: and in Autumn-Winter 2022/2023 it is popular on all the catwalks, from luxury to low-cost brands, such as Cos.

What has changed compared to a year ago? No doubt, the way to match the balaclava. If once it served as a touch of warmth (and often color) of tracksuits and similar, today the balaclava is worn in an extremely elegant way, like a decorated headband. Essential, but feminine: this is demonstrated by the runway look, which plays on the contrast with bare legs. The winter miniskirt, alone or with a short suit, is the perfect ally of the original hat. In the first case, a pea coat, the short trending coat of the season, and a neutral pullover are enough to enhance everything.
